New National Director

Diabetes UK (NI) have announced this morning that they have appointed a new National Director for Northern Ireland.

The new Director is David Chaney.  Those who have been associated with Diabetes UK, or even just the condition diabetes, for a long time will know that David, for those who don't, heres a little bio for him -

David qualified as a staff nurse in 1992 and has been working within the area of diabetes care since 1994.

During this time his roles have varied from staff nurse through diabetes specialist nurse to lecturer in nursing.

He was awarded an MSc in Nursing from Trinity College Dublin in 2001 and subsequently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Health Sciences Education there also.

David completed his PhD in 2010 within the area of structured diabetes education for adolescents between the ages of 13 – 19 years. The programme developed is called CHOICE (Carbohydrate, Insulin Collaborative Education) and has been integrated into routine care across Northern Ireland and in Border Counties of the Republic of Ireland.

In 2012 David was awarded the Royal College of Nursing Northern Ireland Research Nurse of the Year.

Prior to taking up his post as Notional Director, David was Senior Education Specialist at the International Diabetes Federation in Brussels, Belgium.
